This in-person workshop is dedicated to one of the most creative and rewarding aspects of bonsai: style and design, with a special focus on working with high-quality Yamadori from Jagged Spruce. These carefully selected trees provide excellent material for learning how to see structure, develop strong designs, and apply styling techniques with confidence.
The primary emphasis of this class is on styling and designing Yamadori nursery stock, allowing students to focus fully on learning the process without the pressure of choosing or preparing their own material. Under guided instruction, we’ll explore how to identify a tree’s strengths, select an appropriate style, and make thoughtful design decisions that support long-term development. The day will include wiring and bending techniques used to bring each design to life, with individualized guidance throughout.
Students who already have a tree they would like to work on are welcome to bring it, though the recommended experience is to work with one of our nursery trees selected specifically for this workshop.
